Colorado Classic Plans a Return to Racing in 2022, Cancels 2021 Event
Submitted by Bill Plock on January 14th, 2021The Colorado Classic® presented by VF Corporation, America’s premier women’s only racing event, today announced its plans to return to racing in 2022 and not hold an event in 2021.
Following an overwhelming success in its debut as a women’s standalone event in 2019, racing worldwide came to a halt at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite their fierce commitment to creating an innovative and safe live racing model, organizers behind the event had to cancel the 2020 edition due to ongoing health concerns. Read more
Sharon Madison Wins Colorado Classic’s Virtual Yellow Jersey
Submitted by Bill Plock on December 21st, 2020Denver’s Sharon Madison has won Colorado Classic’s Virtual Yellow Jersey presented by the Gates Corporation for her on- and off-the-bike contributions to the greater cycling community.
Nominated by her peers no less than 14 times, Madison was once a professional cyclist, and has since dedicated her life’s work to building a community around the idea that a bike creates freedom and empowerment. She started the bike club at Wish 4 Wheels, providing bikes to second graders at Title 1 schools in Denver, and in the midst of the pandemic she created a new non-profit organization – We Ride 4 — which raises funds to support organizations that promote fitness, health and outdoor adventure for children. Colorado Classic Doubles Down on Support for Women’s Racing, Even as 2020 Edition Gets Cancelled
Submitted by Bill Plock on July 17th, 2020Despite its fierce commitment to creating a safe live racing model and advancing the sport of professional women’s cycling, the Colorado Classic® presented by VF Corporation today announced that their four-day race will not take place this year, citing COVID safety concerns.
Instead, the race organizers are doubling down on championing support of women’s racing under their #WeRide umbrella, and are proud to announce the #WeRide for Women fundraiser and virtual ride.This campaign is intended to financially support the teams who would have attended the Colorado Classic, many of whom rely on competition and prize money to support their livelihoods. For the next two weeks, fans, industry, and sponsors will have the opportunity to donate to the #WeRide Team Development fund — which will be directly distributed to women’s race teams — and join the teams on a Zwift ride on July 29th. Colorado Classic Planning to Roll With “Made for TV” Model.
Submitted by Bill Plock on June 9th, 2020In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Colorado Classic® presented by VF Corporation today released an initial statement sharing their intention to continue their August race with a revised format, a ‘Made for TV Streaming’ model.
With a new race model that limits the gathering of crowds and prioritizes the safety of riders, host communities and staff, the race organizers feel optimistic that America’s premier all-women’s professional road cycling race could successfully continue August 27-30, 2020 — pending the appropriate approvals from the State, county and city health departments. Snowmass, Boulder, Avon, Denver Hosts for 2020 Colorado Classic

At a press event at the Colorado State Capitol, race organizers and State Governor Jared Polis welcomed Snowmass Village, Avon, Boulder and Denver as the host communities for the 2020 race.
