THE NO-KIDDING-THIS-IS-NOT-GOING-ANYWHERE PHONE (AND GOPRO, AND TABLET) MOUNT FOR YOUR BIKE
Technology has become a ridiculously ubiquitous part of our lives. Most of us are never more than arm’s reach from our phone, and we capture huge portions of our lives on video. If only there was some great product that would allow us to keep our tech stable and in reach while we’re out enjoying a great bike ride … Dur, of course there’s a great product that does that! Why else would I be musing about it?
WHO MAKES IT?
MyGoFlight is a Denver-based company whose initial focus was on meeting the needs of private and recreational pilots who wanted a secure way to mount their iPads in-flight. The owner of MyGoFlight is an avid cyclist, and he saw the opportunity to translate their products for the cycling industry.
WHAT IS IT?
The MyGoFlight Sport Universal Phone Bike Mount allows you to securely mount your phone (any phone, any size) to your bike’s handlebars. And when I say secure, I mean <i>secure</i>. Given MyGoFlight’s roots in phone and tablet mounts for the aviation industry, they are not messing around when they design something to stay in place.
Don’t need your phone on your bike? Maybe a GoPro is more your style. The Universal Mount with Go Pro Adapter lets you capture the view on your climb to Ward, your epic MTB tumble, or simply the behavior of all those friendly drivers while you’re out on a Sunday spin.
Indoors more your style? Pop the Sport- Universal Cradle on a range of mounts and your tablet is right there where you need it to keep you entertained during your indoor ride. Stream Netflix, answer emails, play Solitaire, whatever gets you to the finish – just be sure to have a towel handy to mop up the sweat.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Universal Phone Bike Mount arm attaches quickly and easily onto your handlebars with two screws and the provided Allen wrench, and has different inserts to fit different size bars. Once you tighten down those screws, the mount is seriously rock solid. Then you pop the mount onto the arm – you literally pop it on, it just clicks into place. Finally, you place your phone in the mount and adjust the clamp to hold your phone in place. The clamp fits phones of any and all sizes, from the small iPhone 5c / iPhone SE up to a phablet.
Once everything is in place, the Universal Phone Bike Mount is pretty great. Your phone is right in front of you, but not intrusive or in the way. And I cannot sufficiently describe how stable your phone is once clamped into the mount. I popped in a large phone, mounted off-center due to a pop socket, and then bounced down off a sidewalk and that phone did not budge. At all.

The GoPro Mount, like the phone mount, has proved to be very sturdy, easy to use and produces some great video. Here is a bit from a recent ride I did along the California coast.
The mount is easy to attach to the bike and I leave it on all the time and take my GoPro on and off. It also is easy to grip and run with and the mount makes a nice stand to set on the trail to shoot video. It allows access to the SD card and power compartment while leaving the mount on. The Universal Cradle works with a variety of MyGoFlight’s clip and suction mounts. I have been using it with the Universal Mount Kit, which clamps on to just about anything and works quite well to use in front of bike trainer as you see in this picture. I mounted it to a door and it holds firm, it swivels and is stable enough to touch the screen while I ride.
