Cyclist Killed in Hit and Run Near Carter Lake

LARIMER COUNTY – Authorities are looking for a vehicle that they believed caused the death of a cyclist near Carter Lake Tuesday evening and drove away.

The bicyclist was hit at around 7:20 p.m. on Larimer County Road 8E – near the Berthoud water treatment plant, according to Colorado State Patrol.

Investigators believe a white sedan or SUV passed the cyclist, who was headed eastbound on CR 8E. At some point, troopers say the vehicle hit the bicyclist, causing him to lose control and fall into the road, where he was hit by a pickup truck that was headed in the other direction.

The person driving the pickup stayed on the scene. The driver of the white sedan or SUV, however, drove away. CSP did not offer an additional description of the vehicle or say where it was headed.

The cyclist who died has been identified as 43-year-old Jason Holden from Berthoud.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call CSP dispatch at 303-239-4501.

Not sure how this is an accident
“A white sedan or small SUV was driving eastbound on CR 8E, the release stated, when it struck Holden’s bicycle, which was also riding eastbound.”
Nice victim shaming here. Does it matter if he was wearing a helmet for not when someone hits him from behind?
“I don’t know if (Holden) had any type of equipment on as of right now,” Trooper Joshua Lewis said.

At that time of day, the troopers comment was probably referring to the use of head/tail lights.

Maybe, but I know how LEO likes to victim blame cyclists.
