CU Needs Cyclists for Shoe and Saddle Study, Compensated

The University of Colorado Locomotion Lab, part of the Integrative Physiology Department, is conducting two studies and needs cyclist to help them out. They offer you a $25 Amazon gift card for your time, but also you get some great feedback on your biomechanics and learn about saddle efficiency and how shoes can affect power.

Saddle Study

The Locomotion Lab of the Integrative Physiology Department at CU-Boulder is investigating the effect of saddle tilt on efficiency and comfort during uphill cycling. Our experiment will take place in the CU Locomotion Lab on campus.

To be eligible for this study, you must be:

  • 18-49 years old
  • In good health
  • Cycle (outdoors or indoors) at least 4 hours per week
  • Have at least one year of cycling experience
  • Height between 5’6”- 6’2”
  • Have your own clipless cycling shoes and pedals

The study consists of 1 visit which will take up to 2 hours.

The experiments are completely non-invasive. Participants will receive a $25 Amazon gift card for their participation in each testing session.

Shoe Biomechanics Study

The Locomotion Lab of the Integrative Physiology Department at CU Boulder is studying The Effect of Shoe Sole Stiffness on Maximal Torque Production During Cycling. The testing will involve a series of standing maximal sprint efforts under high-torque conditions, which will take place in the CU Locomotion Laboratory in Clare Small Building 111c.

To be eligible for this study, you must:

  • Be >18 years old
  • Be able to fit a 52cm or 56cm bike
  • Wear EU 39-40 or 43-45
  • Be apparently healthy
  • Cycle (outdoors or indoors) at least 4 hours per week
  • Have at least one year of cycling experience
  • Be able to produce a maximum power output of  20 watt/kg body mass
    • for example a 70-kg (154 pound) rider would need to briefly produce at least 1400 Watts

The study consists of one, 2-hour session.

This experiment is completely non-invasive.

You will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card as compensation for completing the testing session.
