Zwift Tour of North America Makes a Stop in Boulder

The Zwift Tour of North America made a stop in Boulder last night at Pro Peloton Cyclery. What is Zwift? It’s the world largest online cycling community, giving cyclists the opportunity to ride with others (virtually) from all over the world. It was designed to provide a platform for cyclists of all ability levels to stay motivated, challenge themselves, and have fun while reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.

img_6062At the event in Boulder, riders were able to compete alongside each other throughout the evening in the KOM/QOM contest on one of the popular climbs in Watopia. Demonstrations of the soon to be released treadmill-based platform (Zwift on iOS) as well as Zwift Virtual Reality brought a lot of interest and attention to attendees. Speed and cadence sensors, smart trainers, and power meters connect to Zwift wirelessly via ANT+ using a USB ANT+ stick or through the Zwift Mobile Link app via Bluetooth Smart. Smart trainers broadcast power data to Zwift and automatically vary resistance to match changing terrain and conditions. Some even vibrate to simulate ‘road feel’ and you’ll get credit for drafting! This real time feedback loop provides the most immersive Zwift experience. Your first 14 days are free, so sign up and Ride On!

Wow, it even vibrates to provide a ‘road feel’. They should also consider attaching VR sets on their riders to provide the ULTIMATE FEEL.

They should consider streaming this over Twitch and maybe Twitch migjht get to sponsor them. This can actually be treated as an eSport or so I believe. It’s making me happy watching bikers embrace technology and making good use of it.
