SPOKANE, Wash. – A local man said he is giving thanks to a nun for saving his life from a fire.
Sister Madonna Buder saw smoke billowing from her neighbor’s house on Monday morning in a mobile home park on West Boone Ave. The fire happened shortly after 6:00 a.m.
Buder quickly called 911. The man inside the home had no idea his home was on fire because his smoke alarm was not working.
Buder banged on the man’s door until he was able to get out.
Many in Spokane might recognize Buder. She is known around town as the “Iron Nun.” Though in her mid-80’s, Sister Buder still competes in Ironman competitions.
Buder has competed in around 50 Ironmans and more than 325 triathlons. She even has been inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame.
