May 30th, 2023–Florida’s Rum Runner Tour will have a new partner accompanying founder Pat Mayben. Former co-founder Kevin Pfaff is turning over his joint duties at the helm to Bill Plock of 303Endurance. Plock also co-owns Colorado’s Ride, a five-day tour in Durango Colorado. 303Endurance is a media network that offers cycling-related content and covered the Rum Runner’s test ride in 2021 and was the official media partner in 2022.

The Rum Runner tour sold out in 2022, riding from Ft. Meyers and Miami to Key West. This year’s edition will offer a similar route with some new twists and attractions. The tour runs from January 20-26 in 2024, attracting about 20 riders nationwide. This year it will start in Naples with some riding in the Everglades before departing via ferry to Key West to continue riding through the Keys towards Miami. The exact route and details will be announced on July 15th, 2023 when the website (www.rumrunnertour.com) will take registrations. The tour will include all lodging, some meals, happy hours, and a few fun excursions with plenty of time to do some exploring and relaxing.
Says, Pat Mayben, “Kevin and I developed a fun tour and I am excited to see it grow and take riders on some new adventures we have planned in the Everglades and in Key West. I was disappointed when Kevin had to make the tough decision to pursue some other opportunities but I am excited to have Bill step in. We have worked together for years and he brings on good operational and rider experience and has the ability to help us create some good stories our riders can take home.”

When Plock rode the route in 2021 he noted the sense of adventure and loved the rich history of the Keys and the relaxing atmosphere, particularly in one of the host towns, Everglades City. Said Plock, “I love the laid-back feeling and restaurants in Everglade City. But I really connected with the history of the route to Key West following an old railroad built almost 100 years ago. Funny how my ride in Colorado follows a train route as does this one!”
The Rum Runner Tour is a boutique-type experience with only 25 riders and a full complement of support with sag vehicles, well-provisioned aid stations, fun lunch stops, and top-quality hotel experiences sprinkled with off-bike activities and excursions with local outfitters and tours.
