A 72-year-old Lyons man was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday for hitting and killing a Boulder cyclist while driving drunk in 2013 in what the judge called a “tragic” case.
Patrick Ward was sentenced by Boulder District Judge Ingrid Bakke on one count of vehicular homicide in the death of Michael Van Duym, 46. He pleaded guilty in October.
Bakke said the crime did not warrant the maximum sentence of 12 years, but also noted that she had yet to see any accepting of responsibility from Ward.
