Like many triathletes, Mike Cousino suffered through the swim as best he could, using a combination of freestyle, breaststroke and back float just to finish. During his first triathlon, he was so nervous and drank so much lake water that he began vomiting before he reached the turn around buoy. Triathletes are a hardy breed, so Mike stuck with it. Of course, he thought the solution to the problem was to increase his training volume. Yards, yards and more yards. Mike’s fitness improved, but his times did not. At his Thursday night triathlon swim group, the mentality was go hard or go home…until Leah Nyikes, the founder of Liquid Lifestyles, took over as coach.

A moment of clarity came during a swim golf set. At first, Mike didn’t care about adding his time and his strokes per length to achieve a low score; he thought this was an opportunity to debunk the go-slow-to-go-fast theory. To his amazement, when he employed the newly learned concepts of balance, length, and timing to his stroke, not only was his swim golf score lower, his raw times were actually faster AND he was less tired. At that moment, Mike learned that proper swimming form is often counter-intuitive. His instincts on how to achieve speed in the water had been upside down. Since that day in 2004, Mike has successfully completed sixty triathlons of every distance using Liquid Lifestyles methods. Most recently, he finished Ironman® Muskoka with his 18-year old son, who also learned how to swim efficiently from Liquid Lifestyles. Mike swam IM Muskoka in 1:12 and consistently exits his swims in the top 20%.
Today, Liquid Lifestyles has grown to become one of the most recognized and premier swim schools in the nation with over twenty expert coaches in several states. Liquid Lifestyles offers a variety of programs including private lessons, group classes, and weekend workshops, providing swimmers of all ability levels with instruction opportunities and resources to achieve their swimming goals.
SWIMMING SIMPLIFIEDâ„¢
Liquid Lifestyles understands that learning styles differ, and they pride themselves on their ability to teach anxious beginners, elite athletes and everyone in between how to swim faster with less effort. Liquid Lifestyles coaches are professionals first, swimmers second. While some of their coaches swam competitively in college, are accomplished triathletes, or are fitness swimmers who’ve mastered the art of efficient technique, swimming talent alone is not enough to become a Liquid Lifestyles coach. All of their coaches excel at communicating complex concepts simply. Collectively, the Liquid Lifestyles team has simplified swimming for thousands of swimmers around the globe.
REPLACE INSTINCT WITH CONFIDENCE

Coaches regularly communicate with each other to share strategies, solve client challenges, and improve teaching methods. This unique collaboration has led to a proven curriculum which is designed to replace instinct with confidence. It is an intelligent step-by-step progression that builds upon
the previous skill. Mastering the first drill sets swimmers up for success in the next drill until they are swimming with ease. Liquid Lifestyles coaches are in the water to demonstrate and and provide hands-on assistance to help clients quickly achieve proper body position. Underwater videos of each client are taken and analyzed with slow motion and frame by frame playback. With the use of overlay sketching capabilities, clients can see exactly what they are doing right and which aspects of their stroke need improvement. Waterproof headsets provide continuous voice feedback while swimming. It is amazing to see how quickly a swimmer can progress when provided with real time technique and stroke corrections from an experienced coach.
