Celebrated Colorado Race Only U.S. Event In World Series
FREDERICK, MD – February 23, 2016 – Gran Fondo World Tour (GFWT), the international cyclo-sportive circuit, has selected the Golden Gran Fondo as the exclusive American stop in its 2016 world series schedule. Riders taking part in the Golden event can collect points in both the GFNCS and GFWT championships.
The Golden Gran Fondo was launched in 2013 by Gran Fondo National Championship Series® (GFNCS) and is ranked one of the Top 10 Gran Fondos in the country by Outside Magazine. The race offers courses covering 20, 60 and 90-mile journeys through the legendary Rocky Mountain foothill roads of Jefferson, Gilpin, and Boulder counties. Highlights include picturesque backroads through rugged terrain, some of the finest gravel roads you can ride with spectacular views across the Front Range, climbs towards the Continental Divide via the Peak to Peak Highway and 12,000 cumulative feet of climbing before returning to Golden.
“Our Golden, Colorado event is considered the flagship race in the Gran Fondo National Championship Series,” said Reuben Kline, founder and president of GFNCS. “To have the Gran Fondo World Tour choose Golden as its exclusive U.S. cyclo-sportive race reflects the worldwide appeal of riding the Rockies.”
Set for August 28, 2016, the Golden Gran Fondo joins GFWT events in Spain, Kuwait, Italy, Norway and Kazakhstan to make up the 2016 schedule.
