Geoff Hawksworth: Coaching to Improve Your Swimming Technique and Fitness

With 22 years of swimming (17 of those years competing at a high level), Geoff Hawksworth decided to turn his passion into a career. After retiring from New Zealand Fire Service, Geoff came to Boulder in the summer of 2012 to pursue triathlon. He soon met his future wife and settled permanently in Boulder in late 2013. Geoff decided to utilize his years of experience to build a career and began coaching swim clinics with Curt Colby in the spring of 2014. Once summer rolled around, he became head coach of the 13 and over Boulder Elks Swim Team and led them to one of their most successful seasons to date. Geoff has continued to coach the Boulder Elks team through fall training and will be coaching alongside Curt at Boulder High School this upcoming season.
Geoff in PoolGeoff creates an extremely structured, organized, and effective swim program that is geared towards helping each athlete reach his or her individual goals and peak performance. He works on technique, efficiency, building endurance, and generating speed. Geoff has expertise in both pool and open water swimming and his calm yet fervent and devoted method of coaching encourages every swimmer to reach new heights. His technique is methodical and effective and results speak for themselves.
Geoff Wetsuit Out of WaterCoach Geoff is starting a new program geared towards experienced swimmers who want to take their training to a new level. There are no age limits – all swimmers will train together (as they do in New Zealand) regardless of their age, but must meet a minimum requirement of 400 yards in eight minutes. This program is designed to create fitter and faster athletes and participants will reap the rewards of training in a group setting with similar-skilled athletes under the guidance of a dedicated and proficient coach. Practices will be a balance of drills, speed, threshold, and endurance.
Geoff is a registered coach with American Swimming Coaches Association, USA Swimming, and has American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED and Lifeguarding Shallow and Open Water Certifications.
Practices begin Monday, September 15, at the Elks pool (Mon/Wed/Fri 12 – 1:15pm) – the first five weeks will be at a SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY RATE to give the program a try. Starting October 20, practices will move indoors to North Boulder Rec Center (Mon/Wed/Fri 7 – 8:15am).
