A 20-year-old man will face the maximum sentence for killing a Golden bicyclist while driving drunk on Lookout Mountain, according to a news release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s office.

Zachary Strnad was sentenced to 10 years in prison for vehicular homicide Friday.

In February, he accepted a plea agreement in Jefferson County District Court. He pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide DUI, a felony, and the misdemeanor count of driving while under the influence, according to state records. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed three additional charges.

Strnad’s blood-alcohol content was two and a half times the legal limit when he hit 38-year-old Thomas Flanagan in August 2015. Flanagan was riding his bicycle east on Lookout Mountain Road when Strnad hit him from the opposite direction.
