Davis Phinney Foundation Seeks Events and Development Manager

The Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s is a dynamic, national nonprofit organization located in Colorado. Founded by professional cyclist and Olympian, Davis Phinney, our mission is to help people with Parkinson’s to live well today and we inform and inspire hundreds of thousands of people living with Parkinson’s around the world each year through our programs. Our grass roots fundraising events include world class cycling and running experiences, such as: Ride The Rockies, Copper Triangle, RAGBRAI, Tour De Victory, Twin Cities Marathon and a host of “Team DPF” and community events throughout the year.

About the Position

Annually, the Davis Phinney Foundation participates in and produces fundraising events that bring together individuals and teams of peer-to-peer “Team DPF” fundraisers to cycling, running, walking and other fundraising activities. In addition to developing and organizing those efforts, this position and our development team manage all fundraising for the Foundation including corporate sponsorships, individual giving programs, grants and event-based fundraisers.

The Events and Development Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that the mission and goals of the Foundation are met through strategic, thoughtful and innovative events, fundraising, partnerships and collaboration. This person is passionate about building relationships, providing best-in-class fundraising event experiences, building a community of partners and supporters and digging into FUNdraising in all its dimensions.

Specific Accountabilities 
• Fundraising Event Strategy and Recruitment
o Work closely with the Director of Development and team to conceive of, plan and implement the Foundation’s annual fundraising and peer-to-peer events strategy
o Recruit new events and manage existing partnerships, seeking to continuously improve fundraising results
o Work closely with the marketing team to support events, attendance and sponsorship goals
o Work closely with the Team DPF manager to deliver best-in-class event experiences and incentives for our grass roots, peer-to-peer Team DPF fundraisers
o Create an annual sponsorship plan and sponsor benefits structure. Recruit corporate sponsors to support events and Foundation goals
• Fundraising Event Planning and Execution
o Create all event agreements and serve as main point of contact for events and partners
o Ensure the timely and accurate development of event run of show schedules, budget, event logistics and staffing
o Coordinate events on site and supervise all site-based activities
o Support volunteer committee development and assist as needed. 
o Manage all event supplies, incentive merchandise and materials to insure inventory controls and effective event deployment
o Deliver best-in-class experiences for our event participants, sponsors, volunteers, donors and fundraisers
• Financial Management/Revenue Generation
o Develop an annual budget for Team DPF events, event-based community fundraising and fundraising event sponsorships/partnerships
o Meet the revenue, implementation and attendance goals for fundraising events within the annual budget and accountabilities for the position
o Track and manage fundraising event expenses and manage vendors within budget parameters
• Sponsor/Partner Engagement
o Work to recruit industry (corporate) partners and sponsors for fundraising events and Team DPF, including sponsorship design and fulfillment, corporate/foundation grant seeking and other creative means 
o Stay current on best practices for sponsorships, sponsor benefits and mutually beneficial partner engagement
o Provide stewardship including periodic reports for all program, team or event sponsors/partners
o Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure fulfillment on all sponsor benefits and tracking of related sponsorship metrics
• Community Fundraising
o Evaluate and analyze community, grassroots, Facebook and other fundraising efforts and keep abreast of creative new strategies for continuous improvement and revenue growth
o Build successful relationships with key volunteers, participants, Ambassadors, donors and community leaders 
• Other
o Provide positive customer service to all individuals, families, donors, participants and teams by responding promptly to requests and providing consistent year-round communication
o Become fluent in Davis Phinney Foundation programs and services and connect individuals with resources and appropriate staff, programs and services
o Develop fluency with Blackbaud, Raisers Edge and Team Raiser software and follow best practices around reporting, maintenance, compliance and use of constituent data

General Responsibilities
• Ability to travel to attend events 6-8 times per year 
• Support the Foundation’s reputation as a leader in Parkinson’s research and education; and as a fun, exciting and inclusive team of supporters
• Represent the Foundation and Team DPF in other activities as assigned

Qualifications

This person is outgoing, strategic, detail-oriented and has a strong intuition for team and community building. Additionally, this person is a team player who enjoys “friend-raising”, working across all departments and programs and can adapt to a wide range of personal styles. 

• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, non-profit management or related preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in development and/or fundraising events
• Experience and passion for cycling, running, walking and other active lifestyle events
• Exceptional critical thinking skills and attention to detail
• Exceptional verbal and written communication 
• Experience with peer to peer, gala and/or “team” fundraising events preferred
• Sponsorship development or sales experience preferred
• Experience with Microsoft tools and Mac OS preferred
• Experience with Blackbaud products preferred (Raisers Edge, Luminate, TeamRaiser, Online Express)

Physical Requirements
Our ideal candidate in this job must be able to:
• Remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time
• Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
• Constantly operate a computer and other office machinery
• Travel to events and load/unload event supplies and equipment up to 50lbs
• Set up event tents, displays, tables and other event/festival venues
• Occasionally raise objects (equipment and boxes) weighing up to 35 lbs. from a lower to higher position or horizontally (lifting)
• Occasionally use upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects (pulling) in a sustained motion
• Occasionally needs to push against something with steady force in order to move something

Salary/Benefits
Salary range is between $48,000 and $55,000, commensurate with background and experience. Other benefits and perks include:
