The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of Valmont Bike Park. The park, located at the corner of Valmont and Airport roads, is a 42-acre, natural-surface facility, recognized as the largest urban bike park open free to the public and offers multiple disciplines for all ages and abilities. The grand opening of Valmont Bike Park occurred on June 11, 2011, at which more than 2,500 children and adults enjoyed a ribbon-cutting ceremony, vendor expo, food, fun and rides on the many park amenities and features.
Skratch Labs of Boulder and their cycling evangelist Allen Lim hosted a training camp for Christian Vande Velde as he prepares for the Tour de France this summer. Attendees were, Evelyn Stevens (Boulder), Dave Zabriskie, Tim Johnson and Taylor Phinney. When seeing such great names show up to work with innovative coaches like Allen once again solidifies why Boulder & Colorado are such a great place for the cycling enthusiast!
After a beautiful ride up on the Peak to Peak Highway, George Thomas of Over the Top Radio and 303Cycling caught up with Christian and talked not about "the plan" or the tour, etc but what is it like to be a demanding athlete AND a parent at the same time.
Last night my 11 yr son and I attended the 9pm movie after the sold out 7pm movie. I came into this movie without really any expectations as my only research into this movie was the trailer.... it was about bikes, did I need more? The show started off with some live music from one of the musicians on the soundtrack (which just last night is on iTunes) and we were also treated to another trailer of a river movie the same director is working on. The movie "Reveal the Path" started and instantly I was thrown into confusion as to what the plot was but who cares, it's about bikes. But in general you have 4 guys, riding to 5 parts of the world to see some spectacular sights, ride some great "trails" and experience different cultures. Their route follows like this, Scottland, Switzerland, Morocco, Nepal, Alaska. The intent of the ride was to explore through beauty your way of life, your path, or something like that. Lots of deep feeling talk on the back drop of some pretty amazing views that left me thinking like Liz Lemon and saying "I want to go there".
