The Colorado Mini Classic is the revival of a stage race for juniors that began in the 1980s with the Red Zinger and Coors Classic Stage Races. The originial Mini Classics helped launch the careers of Bobby Julich, Jonathan Vaughters, Clark Sheehan, Ruthie Matthes, Colby Pearce and many other cycling legends.

Erie cyclist pushes for singletrack trail in town

Haid, who rides for the Trek Colorado Race Team, created eriesingletrack.com to get the word out about the town's potential to serve as a mecca for cyclists in eastern Boulder County. With an already established network of paved pedestrian and bike trails throughout town -- and the nearly completed Coal Creek Trail connection opening up a 27-mile route to Superior -- Haid said a singletrack trail could be the perfect amenity for Erie's active residents.

The kickoff presentation Wednesday that outlined the route for the Pedal the Plains was so energizing and exciting that I almost went out and bought a road bike when it was over. I’m sort of kidding. Not about the exciting and energizing part. Just the part about me buying a road bike (unless you know of a really great deal). But truly from the governor to Chandler Smith the director of Pedal the Pains it was obvious that a lot of thought and heart goes into planning this very cool and family friendly event.

Boulder considers 2014 Pro Cycling stage, Ironman triathlon

News Item: 

Local organizers are hoping Boulder will again host a stage of the elite USA Pro Cycling Challenge in 2014, and Ironman officials have approached the city about hosting a full triathlon here as well.

Both possibilities are in the planning phases, with a local organizing committee preparing to bid in November for a stage next year and Ironman in a "very early exploratory stage" of a Boulder competition.
