UPDATE 7/13/16
From Salida Cycling Club Regarding the Hayden Fire

The excitement for this weekend’s cycling races is growing, and so is the concern over the growing fire south of town. We just wanted to send a short update to keep you all informed over the current conditions and ease any confusion as you prepare for your race weekend. Most of us reside on the front range and if you watch the news the Hayden fire looks like armageddon. Currently the fire is growing, is zero % contained, and all the haze in Colorado Springs is a direct result of the burning forest. So that’s the bad news! The good news is the state of affairs in the town of Salida. Our team, as the contracted production company, had a conference call at noon today with the Salida Cycling Club. Not only did their club members go for a ride around the courses without issue this morning, but they stated the air quality in town, and on course, is perfect. You all know us pretty well and we don’t sugar coat things. You also know we would never compromise your race experience or place you in an unsafe situation. The leadership of the Salida Cycling Club has stated the winds are coming out of the west, driving all Hayden fire smoke towards Colorado Springs. Forecasts predict these winds will continue to blow in the current direction through the duration of the race. So what does that mean for us as racers? It means currently the air and temperature conditions are ironically perfect in Salida for racing, so the Salida Cycling Club is all engines moving forward with the race weekend. Please spread the word and if there’s any late breaking changes you’ll be the first to know via a text emergency system that’s in place, along with e-mail. Our team is in constant communication with the county, the city, EMS services, and Salida Cycling Club to make sure you all stay updated, safe, and have the best racing experience possible.
