The lure of escape and the search for transcendence were the auspices under which I began riding my bicycle. I was fifteen the first time I slipped out from underneath a rough blanket in a cheap roadside motel along highway 50 near Montrose and hopped on an old Diamondback mountain bike. I paused at the door, wondering if I should bring something along to eat. It would mean stepping over my two little sisters, sharing a rotting mattress on the floor beside the toilet and the mop bucket, near where the mice lived. The Denver Post Ride The Rockies (RTR) Bicycle Tour presented by Flexential, (formerly Peak10 + ViaWest) announced its 2018 tour route to an excited crowd gathered for the annual RTR Route Announcement Party held at the Cable Center on Saturday, February 3. The 2018 ride will be a loop, beginning and ending in the Front Range accessible mountain town of Breckenridge. The tour will span over six days beginning with the RTR Bike Expo on Saturday, June 9 and ending with finish line festivities on Friday, June 15.
