Oktoberfest finishes Triathlon Season in Collegiate Style for All

By Bill Plock

600 triathletes, including 130 collegiate athletes made for an electric atmosphere at Union Reservoir in Longmont at the Without Limits Oktoberfest Triathlon. In it’s tradition, the Oktoberfest triathlon signals the end of the triathlon season along the Front Range in Colorado. Also in tradition, the Rocky Mountain Tri Club keeps it extra fun by encouraging members to wear costumes. Little Bo Peep, Pinocchio, and a host of other characters crossed the line.

With the collegiate challenge, the costumes and perhaps knowing it’s the last triathlon of the season, there was plenty of banter and fun and everyone stuck around for the awards—maybe knowing, many folks won’t see each other again until the spring? Who knows.

As far as the collegiate race CU’s Mike Meehan, Benedict Bettin and Seth Kurtz finished first, second and third respectfully in the men’s race. In the womens race, CSU’s Katrina Lems, Victoria Dippold were first and second and CU’s Alexandra Schwein was third. Athletes from Wyoming, Air Force, School of Mines and Montana State also competed.

In the age group categories, Kevin Konczk, Chris Knaute, and Sam Smith won for the men and Liz West, Diane Edwards and Dore Berens won for the women. There were 16 relay teams and the male relay team, Team Triron War took top honors with a winning time only the top 2 single men racers beat with a time of 1:02:54 and the third place male finisher finished in 1:02:55.

It was an exciting day and all the finishing times can be found HERE
