Breaking the Barriers CX Race raises funds to support non-profit Amy D. Foundation
BOULDER, CO, 9/28/16 -The third annual in honor of Amy Dombroski will be held in Boulder, CO on October 2nd. Amy was a young, vivacious professional cyclocross racer tragically killed while training in Belgium three years ago. A U23 National Champion in road, cross-country mountain biking, and cyclocross, Amy once said “…cyclocross tends to have a niche cult following. It’s different, it’s edgier, it accepts everyone.” Amy had energy about her and a soul that far surpassed her 26 years on this Earth.
In Amy’s memory, The Amy D. Foundation was established to encourage and support young women through cycling, inspiring the celebration of healthy challenge and empowering the confident pursuit of lofty dreams. Collaborating with industry and non-profit partners alike, Amy D. Foundation programming builds participation, opportunity, and equality for women in the sport.
This weekend’s course will consist of barriers, off camber sections, quick elevation changes, tight corners and gravel. Racers and fans can expect robust podium bags, raffles, mechanical support, and food and beverages from local food vendors. Those interested in racing can find out more about this event by visiting the Amy D Foundation website (amydfoundation.org/cxrace/).
“Last year we just about doubled the number of racers from 2014 and raised a significant amount of money for the Foundation. We’re planning on even greater success this year.” Said co-race promoter and major sponsor Paul McCarthy of Cross Propz.
Net proceeds from the event directly support the Amy D. Foundation, 501(c)(3) non-profit. About 75% of Amy D. Foundation funding comes from private donations and fundraising events.
