ALERT: Cherry Creek Trail to be Flooded Wednesday June 1

From 9News

If you use the Cherry Creek Trail, you’ll have to find a different route Wednesday.

The Army Corps of Engineers will flush sediment from the gates of the Cherry Creek Dam, south of Interstate 225 in Aurora. The agency said the annual flush is required to allow proper operation of the outlet gates.

People are asked to stay off the bike paths and walkways as the reservoir gates are opened. The water will cause the creek to reach potential flooding stages.

The water release will take place in bursts starting at 9 a.m. and stop around 12 p.m. It will take about six hours for the water from the dam to reach downtown and Confluence Park.
