Boulder Bike Lanes: Canyon Blvd Considerations

Protected bike lanes in play

Boulder transportation planners have refined the options for the upcoming redesign of Canyon Boulevard downtown, and are eyeing both protected and buffered bike lanes, realigned pedestrian ways and new landscaping.

None of the three scenarios still being considered — down from a total of seven last year — call for removal or relocation of the Glen Huntington Bandshell at Canyon and Broadway, and none would reduce the number of vehicle lanes in the roadway.

The stretch of Canyon slated for a redesign runs from Ninth Street to 17th Street.

Boulder’s City Council is expected to give feedback on the refined options in April, at which point city staff members will look to begin engineering and cost analysis. As that investigation is yet to begin, there’s not yet a target completion date for the project…
