At 10 yrs old, Ben Findley, is a seasoned veteran of the Longmont Youth Triathlon. He’s participated in six of the races since 2010 when he was just 4 yrs old!
The youngest of four kids in a very active and athletic household, in 2010, Ben’s two older brothers and sister were slated to do the event. Not wanting to be left out of the festivities, we got permission from the race director, Sara Stewart-Taylor, ensuring her that Ben could swim the 100yds. The rest is history.
I asked Ben to tell me about his race this year. Here’s what he had to say.
I don’t feel like I prepared as much this year as in years past. I only swam about 4 times the week before the race. I could have done better, but I didn’t decide until about 3 weeks before the race to do it and there was school and soccer tryouts.
My bike and run went really well. My run went really well because I did a lot of running during the school year and that paid off. The running could have carried over into the biking, but I do like biking a lot.
My favorite part about the race was the biking.
Next year Ben will move up to the 11-12 year old age group. There’s a little trepidation in the thought that the swim distance will double, but he’s pretty confident that the bike and run will be his strong points again.
Here’s Ben’s recap from 2014
Try-a-Tri
Jody McCain teamed up with friend Jeri Hitchcock and the two of them trained together to get ready for the Try-a-Tri.
Jody:
I joined the Try-a-tri in order to challenge myself to stay fit as well as try something new. As I grow older I have realized how important consistent exercise is for both my body and mind. Competing in the triathlon was a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be and I can’t wait to do it again next year. I also performed better than I expected.
