NEW YORK – June 21, 2016 – Smile Train Team EMPOWER, the official charity partner for the 2016 IRONMAN® Arizona triathlon, is currently accepting applications to participate in this year’s event. Smile Train is the world’s largest cleft charity, providing free cleft lip and palate surgeries and comprehensive cleft care to children in the developing world. Since beginning its partnership with IRONMAN Arizona in 2013, Smile Train Team EMPOWER has been able to transform the lives of more than 9,600 children.
Smile Train Team EMPOWER is a global endurance fundraising program of Smile Train that provides a platform for athletes to make their race count for children in need. The program has over 600 alumni worldwide, including prominent individuals from the business, entertainment and hospitality sectors.
“We’re so excited to be the official charity partner with the 2016 IRONMAN Arizona triathlon for the fourth year and to help raise funds and awareness around the issues faced by children living with untreated clefts in the developing world. As of today, we have raised over $2.5 million through the event,” said Sarah Coulam, Senior Manager, Community Relations, Fundraising.
Team EMPOWER builds a community of athletes that support each other as they train for IRONMAN Arizona and raise funds for Smile Train. When joining Team EMPOWER, athletes will be tasked with raising a minimum of $5,000 (which includes their entry fee to the race) – providing surgery for 20 children.
