Coal Creek Trail gets Erie extension

News Item:

Having worked in the Louisville area a year ago I know the gem the Coal Creek Trail system has. This trail allows you to ride from from Lafayette to Hwy 93/Dowdy Draw on trail and now they are going to extend it into Erie. Fantastic place to ride in the winter months... trail is mostly empty. David and I did this more times than I can count last year.

Earlier this spring I had heard about a cool cycling event in Utah. I didnt know alot about the event until recently when promoter Burke Swindlehurst sent us and email. We asked him a few questions about the event.

[303Cycling] Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?
[Burke] I raced professionally on the road both domestically and internationally for 13 years with teams such as Saturn, Navigators, Toyota/United and Bissell as well as racing professionally on the Mt. Bike for Moots and Monavie/Cannondale. After retiring from professional racing last year, I took a position as a Director Sportif for Team Bissell. I have also worked with the Tour of Utah for going on 7 years as a course designer and team liaison.

[303Cycling] Can you tell us a little about the event you are putting on (i.e. distance, how did you get the idea, etc)?

Peter Stetina has hopes on future Tour de France

News Item:

From the Daily Camera

Taylor Phinney could easily be this generation`s poster boy for U.S. cycling, but there is another Boulder High graduate who may be right there next to Phinney in the near future.

Even though they have two different cycling styles, Boulder`s Peter Stetina is steadily developing into the kind of rider who could be a player in the Tour de France.

Sunshine Hill Climb, Boulder

Sunday Sunday Sunday... this is IS on! 2012 Sunshine Hill Climb

Map and elevation only show the ride to the pavements end,
some, including the race, continue on further towards Gold Hill

Make this a quickie out of Boulder or turn it into an all out epic ride. Sunshine Canyon starts where Mapleton street in Boulder ends and pretty quickly things turn upwards fast. You can cheat out early and make a left turn on Poorman which will return you back into Boulder. The first 5 miles are difficult but kindly this road changes a lot afterwards with some decents and some climbing but all with varying pitch. Many stop at the pavement but the brave continue on up to the town of Gold Hill. This section of gravel is steep so be prepared to melt your lungs. Once at Gold hill you have a ton of choices, go west and you end up on the peak to peak Hwy, go North and end up in Left hand canyon, go South and end up back in Boulder and turn around and return to Boulder. I personally recommend going South but you have to feel comfortable on gravel because you will have a lot of miles of it.
