IRONMAN Boulder 70.3 – The Media Report

While 303Triathlon partners Dana and Jen raced the 2016 IRONMAN Boulder 70.3, I was there along with partner Bill Plock and ambassador Erin Trail to cover the race for our site. With IRONMAN press covering much of the professional race, we like to focus on capturing the age group and spectator experience.
Here are a couple things I noticed from the day:
20160611_063451It took some time for the “regulars” to figure out where to go, as venue layout was different from years past. Transition was in a new location, on the grass further east instead of in the parking lot. The race area, from swim start, IRONMAN Village, club area, and transition was a lot more spread out. But we adapted!
That said, it seemed to have a much better spectator vibe. It’s always been good with club and spectator tents being set up, but perhaps the primary spectating location away from the asphalt gave it more a family picnic feel? Despite having to deal with heat, everyone seemed to be having a great time.
Times were pretty fast on the new course (both bike and run) and I heard a lot of athlete reporting 70.3 personal best times.
20160611_105413Dana and Jen will be providing their recaps in the next day or two. You’ll definitely want to read how Dana made it through as she started the race a bit sick, and this was Jen’s very first 70.3 race.
Congratulations and thank you to all who came to race, cheer, or volunteer! We hope to see you next year!
Photos from throughout the day were posted to our twitter feed (@303triathlon) and we’ve posted a lot of other photos in thisfacebook album.
