Colorado cyclists, Evelyn Stevens wins Flèche Wallonne Femmes

News Item:

Boulder cyclists, Evelyn Stevens, has done what no other American female cyclists has done before, she won La Flèche Wallonne Féminine

Since her victory a few days ago her name has been blowing up in Google and other news sites. Velonews interviewed Evelyn, here is a snipet

A pro since 2010, the former Wall Street investment banker and collegiate tennis player becomes the second American to win (Lance Armstrong won the men’s edition in 1996) the Belgian classic. Stevens’ Flèche win was the first for an American woman and all-but-assured her a trip to the London Olympics in July. (Currently fifth, she needs to remain in the top-10 of the World Cup rankings through round 4 next month to automatically qualify.)

USA Cycling covered this momental event for women's cycling winning Fleche Wallonne Feminine

For the first time in the race's 15-year history, an American won the La Flèche Wallonne Féminine on Wednesday in Huy, Belgium. Evelyn Stevens (Boulder, Colo./Specialized-lululemon), riding for her trade team, passed Marianne Vos (NED/Rabobank Women Team) on the second and final climb up on the Mur de Huy to win on a chilly and occasionally rainy day in eastern Belgium.
In a race that featured 157 riders from 26 different countries, Stevens became the first American woman to reach the podium of La Flèche Wallonne Féminine, completing the 123-kilometer race in 3:26:32.

Aspen Councilmen pushes for more sponsorship money

From Aspen Daily News

Budgeted sponsorship revenue of $60,000 for this summer’s professional cycling race “seems light,” Aspen City Councilman Derek Johnson said, and organizers should “reach for the stars” in an attempt to offset the public’s cost to hold the two-day event in Aspen.

Candelas Race Postponed - Snowstorm Coming - Get Your Weekend Racing at the Fed Center or USAF!

Fri, 2012-04-13
Based on input from our race director, volunteers, officials and staff, the Candelas Race scheduled for Sunday, April 15 has been postponed indefinitely due to the forecasted snow/rain/wind storm. We are working to reschedule the event. Pre-registered riders be refunded 100% of entry fees electronically within the next two business day.

The forecasted snowstorm sounds very likely, and we do not want to wait until 6 am on raceday to make a decision. With this announcement, our athletes can better plan the weekend, and make the most of the Federal Center Circuit Race or the USAF Front Range Classic.

And yes, in Belgium, those pros would probably still race on Sunday. Flights to Belgium are still available on most major airlines - but please check with the Belgian Cycling Federation about entry to those events before making your travel plans.

Thanks to the ACA,race promoter, and officials for not waiting until the
last minute to postpone the Candelas race. Since I had pre-registered I
probably would have traveled out there only to find a last minute
cancellation. Now everyone can plan accordingly. Good organization on your part.

Stolen Bikes Alert

News Item:

From my email today

Hi all,

Just wanted to send out an update about the theft of bikes from our team last Saturday. Around 9PM Saturday night, our cargo van side door lock was smashed and 11 bikes were stolen. Later that evening, a car heading south on I-95 was pulled over because it had bikes sticking out of its windows and trunk. 5 bikes were recovered from this vehicle but the suspect was released because of a lack of evidence that the bikes were stolen. As it turns out, this fellow has been implicated in 21 previous incidents of larceny. The suspect and the other 6 bikes are still at large, and police investigations are still ongoing.

We are extremely grateful for the overwhelming help and support that we've received from the cycling community. Over 25,000 cyclists have been made aware of the situation. Every bit of help counts.

To wrap up,

1. If you can, please forward the list of stolen bikes (http://bit.ly/HnBFIL) to bike shops, cyclists, and anyone else you think might be of help. We have no idea how far the other guy's gone with the remaining 6 bikes, especially since they know we're looking for them now.
