Honor the Stop

News Item:

Honor the Stop is not about the Bus Stop or the Bus Stop ride but it is about respecting the law. This movement was started in San Francisco and is spreading throughout the country. Their theme is pretty basic, follow traffic laws and respect others in order to gain respect. I LOVE IT. I can't tell you how many times I get frustrated when I see a cyclist blow through a 4 way stop when there are 3 cars already at the stop. How can we expect auto traffic to cut us some slack when some riders don't give a damn about the laws of the road. The problem could explode as CU University encourages freshmen to leave cars at home. Hopefully the university (including the CU cycling team) will spend some time and $$ to focus on cycling education on campus.

1+26 for next week's ShortTrack

News Item:

#3 is in the bag and this week's short track hurt a bit more than the last two. Starting at the back of the field does not help but I have always enjoyed being the hunter more than the hunted so spending the race chasing and passing is very motivating while sitting in 1st at times can be very stressful(but that does not happen that often). But this course was not a cross friendly course plus my single speed was a bit over geared for the event since I was running a 39x17.

Mason-Dixie line is Hwy 66!!!

News Item:

I read it twice to make sure I got what he was saying and I was floored. I left Missoura to get away from attitudes from folks like this and FROM THE SHERIFF!!!

From the Lamier County Sheriff

Don’t you just love this time of year, when the birds, boats and cyclists come out? Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

Tis the time of year for countless walking, running and cycling events that positively or negatively affect each of us. Then there’s the inevitable conflict between the motorists and cyclists using roads that are in disrepair and aren’t fit for either. The Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies are tasked with keeping the peace and enforcing the laws. The end result is that nobody is happy with us.

Is Fort Collins an island in Larimer County?

News Item:

I was hoping to post an article earlier this week about how progressive Fort Collins appears to be when it comes to a cycling community. They just opened their bike library, they are hosting six day races on the oval, they just recently had Collegiate Nationals, they have their own short track series.... and a few more that I know I have recently read about. I am impressed with what they are doing.... until I hear about the Sheriff is going to crack down on cyclist in his county.

New trailhead in Lyons could increase sexual predators!

News Item:

Recently there was a meeting in Lyons to decide on the fate of a trail head in Lyons for the much anticipated Picture Rock Trail but the vote has been delayed by Lyon's trustees as they rethink the deal. Here are some of their concerns....

"Lyons Trustees criticized the site, saying it would cause congestion in the surrounding neighborhood and threaten students with traffic and potential sexual predators that might be inclined to go “on a stakeout.”

Patellar Tendinitis

News Item:

Sidelined!

Saturday I was barely able to complete a simple, easy 2 hour ride because of an extreme pain in my knee. Even though my legs are about as straight as the Missoura river I've never had any problems with them... until then. When anyone in my family gets sick we consult Dr. Koop's Self Care Advisor but that book was not going to tackle something as unique as a cyclist knees so then I turned to Andy Pruitt's Complete Medical Guide for cyclist

I'm no doctor but with the help of this book it appears that I might have Patellar Tendinitis.

Symptoms

Pain in the front of the knee, below the patella, when you pedal or walk upstairs.... You may also experience pain when you merely touch the tendon...

Causes

  • Hard Sprinting
  • climbing in a big gear
  • Off the bike Activities
  • Combination of all the above (this is my assumed cause)

Treatment

  • Ice it 3-4 times a day
