Visiting for Ironman Boulder? Some Ideas on What to Do

Boulder is such a beautiful area – ask anyone they will agree. There is a wealth of activities in Boulder County and the nearby moutains: hiking, many family-friendly, as well as dozens of 13’ers and 14’ers for the more adventurous. There’s biking – on road and off, baseball games, brewery tours, gold mine tours, gondolier rides, National Parks, State Parks, white water rafting and SO, SO, SO much more.
We asked our followers what their favorite activities are to do here in Boulder. Read on below to see what they like. Here also are a few links to get you started.• On a hot day, I will take my kids (ages 7 and 5) down to the Pearl Street Mall to play in the “pop jet fountains” in front of the courthouse. They love playing in the water, and I love hanging out in the fun summer atmosphere that Pearl St. always has to offer. There is also a small sprinkler park outside at Whole Foods that my kids enjoy while I enjoy a lunch outside on the patio.This is walking distance the finish of the marathon
• Make the relatively short hike to the top of Mt. Sanitas. At the top you are afforded a great view if Boulder and all the way across the Colorado plains. It’s also a great way to flush the legs.
• If you are in Colorado for a few days, be sure to take in a Rockies game at Coors Field in Denver. The stadium itself is unbelievable with its restaurants and shops, and you will see some of Baseball’s greats!
If you are making a vacation of your trip, Pike’s Peak is a great place to visit. You can drive or ride a train to the top for a fantastic view, and a meal.

Historically, there has been great tubing on both Boulder Creek and the St. Vrain River in Lyons. Due to the flooding in September 2013, currently both locations are closed to tubing and kayaking until further notice. We will update this as information is available.
