Who will succeed in this role?

Stages Cycling is looking for a senior embedded developer to join its team developing its power meters, smart bikes and GPS cycling computers. Success in this job means you can bridge the gap between OEM hardware engineers and our embedded team to iterate on new designs given a list of requirements, have a rich knowledge of board bring up, and are comfortable making key architectural decisions that shape the future of Stages embedded systems. Ideally you have experience in both designing hardware and developing firmware given a set of consumer requirements along with your teammates.

Role and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Linux based GPS cycling computer line (existing and new development)
Responsible for architectural decision making related to other embedded products that Stages makes
Interface with other developers working on other parts of the Stages ecosystem, such as the mobile application and cloud.
Evaluate requirements and lead communication with OEM hardware manufacturers to meet goals of new products

Qualifications

–At least 7 years as an embedded engineer
–In-depth experience and understanding customers electronics hardware design
–Expert level embedded C/C++ programmer skills; GCC preferred; Make and CMake
–Design and in-depth experience in prototyping digital and analog parts of schematics for customers electronics. Skills from automotive domain is a big plus
–Practical experience using CAD software. Simulating electronic circuits, making proper PCB layout and PCB tracing. Prepare Gerber documentation for PCB production
–Experience in choosing electronic components given requirements, stock, price, and suitability
–Experience with troubleshooting and solving hardware and circuit issues
–Good communication skills with electronic components manufacturers to explain product requirements, validate prototypes and solve production issues.
–Experience with manufacturing testing to ensure reliable performance in the hands of a consumer
–Understanding of a variety of hardware protocols, eg SPI, I2C, UART, BLE, ANT/ANT+
–Strong knowledge of STM32/NRF52 family chips. IMX6 is a plus
–Experience in inter microcontroller and inter CPU communications, knowledge of existing protocols stacks, approaches
–Solid background in hardware/firmware/software troubleshooting
–Good knowledge in CI and other processes automation
–Knowledge of collaboration software (Git, Bitbucket, Jira…);
–Remote troubleshooting skills. Eg, communicate with customer, understood their issue, evaluate approach to identify user’s issue and prepare solution.
–Experience with GPS a major plus
–Experience with consumer electronic compliance is a major plus

This position does not have any supervisory responsibility

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office and engineering equipment

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require overtime.

Travel

No regular travel is expected for this position.  Travel may be required occasionally to visit manufacturer for prototype or production runs to audit testing practices and ensure shipped product is ready and reliable.
