Race Across America (RAAM) Seeking Temp Staff in Boulder

raamRace Across America (RAAM) is currently seeking tempstaff for this year’s race headquarters in Boulder, CO. This job primarily requires answering phone calls, data entry, and strong communication with fellow staff and racers’ crew members on route. Applicants must be able to work daily between June 14th and June 27th and be able to attend a HQ staff meeting on Monday, June 13th.

Three shifts are currently available:
2:00 – 10:00 pm (‘Cross-Over’)
3:30 pm – 11:30 pm (Evening)
11:30 pm – 7:30 am (Night)

– Answer call-ins from racers & enter Time Station data into master log book and computer
– Track racers on map
– Distribute necessary information such as detours, route changes, and weather warnings
– Follow procedures for phone conversations laid out by HQ manager
– Direct all non-Time Station call-in conversations to HQ manager
– Other tasks as assigned from time-to-time by the race director or HQ manager

Pay is $12.00 an hour. Those interested must be able to commit to the entire event (June 14th — June 27th) and be able to attend the HQ Staff meeting Monday, June 13th.

More Information about 2016 Race Across America & Headquarters:

Race Across America is a 3000-mile ultra-cycling race that starts in Oceanside, CA and finishes in Annapolis, MD. Cyclists are racing against the clock to complete the course in a mere 12 days! Each cyclist/cycling team has their own support crew and follow vehicle that remains with the racer(s) the entire time. The crew is responsible for their racer and for calling into RAAM headquarters at each Time Station with their time and location. Time Stations average to be about every 50 miles along the course.

There are two start dates. All solo racers begin on Tuesday, June 14th and teams start on Saturday, June 18th. These will be two very busy days for RAAM HQ as there will be multiple phone calls coming in at one time.

In addition to receiving crew members’ phone calls with times and locations which HQ staff will then log, RAAM HQ staff will also be called upon for help with directions. Each racer/racing team has a GPS tracking device. These trackers enable thousands viewers from all around the world to follow the race through the mobile TrackLeaders link and the TrackLeaders website. At RAAM HQ, the location of all racers and officials are visible on the HQ TV (viewers & racers are not allowed to see the official’s locations). This gives RAAM headquarters a birds-eye view of the minute-to-minute location of all the racers and officials and allows them to dictate where officials should be positioned. This also means, when a racer and/or support crew wanders off course, a RAAM HQ staff member will help get them back on course using GPS tracking and Google Maps.

Finally, RAAM HQ staff members will also need to have strong communication skills and patience with all call-ins. It is important to note that this race and headquarters operates all 24-hours/day from when the race starts until the last finisher crosses the line. Headquarters staff will get the great experience of speaking with these individuals, from all around the world, who are undergoing an amazing journey and accomplishment. It is also important to note that they are undergoing a great deal of stress and need to be treated with the utmost respect and patience, as HQ staff will be representing Race Across America, the World’s Toughest Bicycle Race.
