Niwot cyclist Charles Crenshaw remembered as jubilant, optimistic

When Charles “Chuck” Crenshaw smiled, it was easy to feel loved and welcomed, his longtime neighbors said.

“From day one all the way through, Chuck had the perma-grin and just that type of powerful optimism,” Ryan Ferrero said, remembering his jubilant neighbor of about 17 years.

Crenshaw, 69, was killed riding his bike May 8 on Nelson Road, west of Longmont. He attempted to turn left onto North 65th Street and crossed into the path of an SUV driven by Maria Sanchez Compean Rico, who was traveling in the same direction. The Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid said Rico is not being charged in the crash, but she was issued a summons for an invalid licence that was either revoked or suspended by the Department of Revenue.
