James Canyon Reconstruction Project Update

Hello –

Starting on Monday, KTI will begin removing asphalt from sections of James Canyon Drive. This work will require flaggers during the day. They’ll focus their efforts mainly on the sections that received the “temporary” asphalt paving a few summers ago. After removing the asphalt, they’ll inspect and repair the subgrade, if needed. After the subgrade is repaired, they’ll apply road base in June and start paving sections in July. Road repairs and paving will continue through the summer.

KTI will continue working on rockeries in the coming weeks. So far, they’ve been able to complete the work using only flaggers and reopening both lanes at night, but it is likely that signals will need to be utilized soon.

Stream restoration work will wrap up next week. Crews will be walking the stream and completing the final items throughout the week. We’ll keep a close eye on all vegetation that was planted to help it grow and thrive. Mother Nature has been a big help giving the thousands of plants we’ve put in the ground a good boost.

Please obey posted speed limits and use caution when driving and/or riding in the canyon. KTI will do their best to maintain a safe travel lane at all times, but more and more of the road will be gravel as we move forward, so give yourself a little extra time to get up and down the corridor.

Thank you for your time, patience, and understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a good weekend.

Andrew
