Boulder’s EVOL U23 ‘Cross racers got to Worlds!

UPDATE:

CycleCross (CX) World Championships were held in Valkenburg, Netherlands earlier this month. The US team was made up 9 athletes, all of whom live or train in Colorado. Those are: U23 Men/Women – Eric Brunner (EVOL), Maxx Chance (EVOL), Denzel Stephenson (EVOL), Gage Hecht, Grant Ellwood, Laurel Rathburn, Katie Clouse, as well as Katie Keough and Katie Compton.

Grant Holicky, the U23 Mens EVOL CX team coach and APEX Coach was very encouraged by the results of the US riders in such tough conditions in a sport dominated by Europeans. Says Grant, “our U23’s are strong and hopefully they can make the jump to the Elites and be in contention for years to come. The culture in Boulder is helping produce some top level cross riders.”

Conditions in Valkenburg were the wettest, muddiest and messiest in more than 10 years! Grant was proud of their ability to over come harsh course conditions, multiple technical difficulties and inexperience on this world stage and still finish high in the standings. He assures us that we will see more great things out of this group of hardworking and talented athletes.

All 3 members of the EVOL Racing U23 cyclocross team have been selected to compete for the US at the World Championships in Valkenburg.

Although representing USA Cycling, the boys need to pay for the trip themselves and are trying to raise money to differ those costs. The total cost of the trip (airfare, fee to USA Cycling and baggage fees) will be close to $3,000. The boys have set up RallyMe pages to help.
