Defendant Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Homicide in Gwen Inglis’ Death

April 6, Golden–Ryan Scott Montoya pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide in the death of Colorado cyclist Gwen Inglis on April 6th in Jefferson County Court. Gwen Inglis (46 years old) died on May 16th, 2021 after Mr. Montoya struck her with his vehicle while she was riding in a marked bike lane during a training ride in Lakewood. Gwen was a U.S. cycling champion. The JeffCo DA’s Office agreed to a sentence cap for Montoya of eight years in the Department of Corrections (DOC).  Montoya could have spent up to 12 years in the DOC for Vehicular Homicide.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 16th, 2022 at 1:30 pm in Courtroom 530 in Jefferson County. May 16th is also the one-year anniversary of Gwen’s death.
Expect family and friends to give their statements at the sentencing hearing as well as a large number of the cycling community to be in attendance
