A cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision with a pickup truck in Boulder County this week after investigators say she tried to make a left turn in front of the vehicle.

The crash occurred at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on Nelson Road near the intersection of 65th Street in unincorporated Boulder County, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis.

The cyclist, identified as 46-year-old Maria “Triny” Willerton, of Boulder, was headed east on Nelson Road ahead of a 2018 Ford pickup truck that also was eastbound.

Lewis said preliminary investigation shows that the cyclist, who was riding on the right shoulder, tried to make a left turn onto northbound 65th Street in front of the truck. The truck collided with the left-rear side of the bicycle, throwing the woman from her bike.
