Cyclist Killed by SUV Identified

The cyclist killed by an SUV near Chatfield Reservoir yesterday had been identified as cycling coach Steve Pye.
A source close to the story who wishes to remain unidentified said Pye made a quick maneuver to avoid a chunk of pavement in the roadway. It is not known if the SUV provided the required three-feet clearance.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart, I am sharing with you, our cycling community today has lost one of it’s greats.

Steve Pye passed away today after being struck by a car in Colorado. He had been out riding and doing what he loves most.

Steve before moving to Colorado, was a Jacksonville native, who grew up racing bikes with his family and raced those bikes they did, where ever they could. He lived life, loved cycling, and was a true soul of the sport who cared for our community with passion. Steve had a unique connection to this world and did the miles to be able to enjoy life to its fullest.

Todd, his sister and mother are en route to Colorado to be with his wife and sons.

Please put Steve and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
