      How do we get into these things?  What were we thinking? This time it was late fall 2017.  A friend that had fallen in love with cyclocross season started to look into gravel riding and decided we needed to do this too.  I borrowed a bike from her and we went for a ride. It was fun, it was different. Let’s give it a try. The Dirty Kanza Events are lottery driven and no guaranteed entries.  We put together teams so that we could all go or not go and not leave anyone behind.       • Iron Horse Bicycle Classic – A Must Do Colorado Event!

        The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic started out as a race between two brothers, Tom and Jim Mayer, with a Baby Ruth candy bar as the winner’s prize. Jim worked as a brakeman for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, which ran the steam powered locomotive between Durango and Silverton. Tom was a young cyclist who grew up near the train tracks to Silverton. Read more

        • Kids and Sports: Why My Kids Aren’t Allowed To Accept Participation Trophies

          On June 29th, I spent more than seven hours on my bike riding with my eighteen year old son Alex. We were riding from Snowmass to Crested Butte Village in Colorado. We rode about 170 kilometers and climbed almost 10,000 feet together. It may sound like a lot of riding and climbing, but in the grand scheme of things, it was just another day on the bike. To be more precise: ‘It was just another day out of seven long days of the Mavic Haute Route Rockies.’ Read more
