South America – A Bikepacking Adventure (Slideshow)
October 12, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
For the past year photographer Brendan James has been exploring the unexplored on two wheels connecting obscure routes with self-supported bicycle tours in central and south America. Come and join him for his first show back in the states as he shares his beautiful imagry and stories from Peru and Chile.
#expeditionancash (Peru) involved a 40 day bikepacking trip where Brendan and adventure athlete Liz Sampey climbed from the hot desert on the coast to 16,000ft by bike crossing the Cordillera Negra and Blanca by bicycle. On the trip the two scouted a new offroad route that followed horse paths and ancient incan trails below glaciers of Mt. Huascrán (22,205′). They got lost more than a few times along the way!
#marcapomacochacuircut began in the dirty metropolis of Lima Peru where Brendan followed maintenance trails climbing ancient aqueducts that feed the city to a lake region at 15,000ft. The route passed through the mystical Marcauassi stone forest where he hiked slick rock lines near ancient stones in the shape of human faces. Brendan faught altitude sickness, cold, snow and hail camping among herds of llamas in the process of circumnavigating this strange alpine plateau.
#transandesbikepacking (Chile / Argentina) Brendan’s 30 day offroad attempt to cross northern Patagonia connecting obscure trails and logging roads and crossing and active volcanic region known as the Cordón Caulle.
Come enjoy a beer and get a unique perspective when travel becomes ones life, endurance expeditions, making it as an adventure photographer and living on the road.
