Pedal the Plains
September 15, 2017 - September 17, 2017
Kersey, Keensburg, Brush
Pedal The Plains (PTP) is a signature event of The Denver Post Community Foundation and an initiative of The Denver Post and the State of Colorado. This Tour strives to strengthen community ties by fostering individual connections and fueling economic development by bringing tourism to the eastern plains, and giving locals the opportunity to educate others on their town and businesses. This one-of-a-kind annual cycling event began in 2012 and celebrates the agricultural roots and frontier heritage of Colorado’s Eastern Plains. Described by the Governor as “a ride for the rest of us”, Pedal The Plains seeks to engage riders of all abilities, from seasoned cyclists to first-time riders, in an educational and recreational experience. The 2017 Tour will highlight three unique and charming communities: Kersey, ‘A Great Place To Grow A Family’; Keenesburg the ‘Home of 500 Happy People and a Few Soreheads’; and Brush! ‘Homegrown Happiness!’.
The heart and spirit of Colorado lies just as much in the eastern plains as it does the Rocky Mountains. Pedal the Plains brings riders on a tour through Weld and Morgan county — highlighting these three communities that still embody that raw pioneer spirit and a dedication to the land. The event will incorporate interactive on-route experiences by staging rest stops on farms, posting educational points of interest and includes locally sourced food for a farm to table experience. Each evening in the host towns, participants will experience the hospitality and charm of a new community and trade in their Lycra for Levis while they enjoy local entertainment, food, and fun in a form that highlights the uniqueness of each town.
PTP is a 3 day tour (Friday through Sunday) that averages 50 to 70 miles per day. The event includes a Century-PLUS option for seasoned riders. The route is unique every year, highlighting different communities. Scheduled for September 15 – 17, 2017, this event is the end of the cycling season bash and garners the attention of many.
Proceeds from Pedal The Plains benefit The Denver Post Community Foundation in support of Colorado FFA Foundation and Colorado 4-H.
