Buffalo Bike Classic funds CU Scholarships

Elevations Credit Union Buffalo Bicycle Classic cycling event raises money for University of Colorado College of Arts and Sciences scholarships.

Boulder, CO – Entering its 16th year, the Elevations Credit Union Buffalo Bicycle Classic is a charity cycling event held in Boulder County at the start of each school year to raise funds for Arts & Sciences scholarships. Since its inception, the event has raised distributed almost $3.5million in scholarships to over 400 CU students. The 2018 event will be held on September 9th starting on Colorado Ave., near Folsom Field.

“This year, as much or more than ever, arts and science funding for higher education from local and regional fundraising efforts is essential to CU students’ success, as federal and state support is under pressure. For those who actively support arts and sciences education, our youth, and who recognize their contribution to our society and our future, it is increasingly important to support the efforts of the Buff Bike Classic scholarship. With the Buffalo Bicycle Classic, our aim is to reward those who support higher education with a unique cycling experience, through a variety of ride route offerings tailored to meet the needs of experienced enthusiast cyclists, or for a fun in-town family outing.” Said Rosie Allen, Scholarship Coordinator and Buffalo Bicycle Classic Manager.

Ride routes range from the Little Buff 14 mile family ride in town, to the Epic2Estes, which serves up over 100 miles of classic Boulder County roads, including a climb up Boulder Canyon, which will be closed to westbound traffic from 7am – 9am, giving enthusiast cyclists the experience of having the Boulder Canyon road climb all to themselves. New this year, this route will also follow the Peak to Peak to Estes Park which is filled with absolutely stunning views. In between those offerings are 35, 50, 70, 75 Epic and 100 mile routes, all of which will be fully outfitted with aid stations and course markings.

For those who would like to support Arts and STEM and the education of Colorado’s best and brightest students, but are not interested in cycling or cannot participate on the day, the Buffalo Bicycle Classic also accepts tax-deductible donations directly through its website.

Scholarships range from $10,000, to full-tuition and fees over a four year commitment. All incoming students who are Colorado residents are automatically considered for the Scholarship based on their acceptance to the College. Scholarships are awarded to students based on a combination of merit and financial need. To remain in the scholarship program, students must maintain 12 credit hours and a 3.0 GPA during their time at CU.

About the Elevations Credit Union Buffalo Bicycle Classic:
The Buffalo Bicycle Classic dates back to 2003, having raised over 3 million dollars in support of student scholarships at CU Boulder. The students served by the BBC are some of Colorado’s brightest; each entering CU with over a 4.0 high school GPA. Our student scholars also demonstrate strong financial need, which makes this scholarship particularly important. Our $10,000 scholarship to these promising students makes higher education attainable. Through the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers and riders, we are able to make a difference in the lives of over 400 students in the last fifteen years.

The success of the BBC is in part due to lessons learned from the Bolder Bike Classic, a ride of the late 1990’s developed by Cliff Bosley under the Bolder Boulder umbrella of events. The event has grown over the years, not only in the dollars raised, or scholarships awarded, but also in the course itself. The BBC now offers 7 cycling courses, varying in difficulty. No matter your age, experience, or physical ability, we have a route for you! Enjoy the beautiful vistas Boulder has to offer, stop by one of our delicious aid stations, or climb Boulder Canyon in confidence thanks to the westbound lane closure. Whatever way you look at it, the Buffalo Bicycle Classic is a great event for a great cause.
