The Format

The goal is to celebrate the joy of biking together and kick off peak riding season in Colorado. Our fantastic emcees will lead us through this 45-60 minute virtual gathering — starting with the five storytellers we’ve lined up, and finishing with stories from you at our “open mic.”

If you’d like to participate in the open mic, please think of a 3-5 minute bike story, and once we’re in the call together, you’ll have the opportunity to get in line to share. We ask that you keep your language clean, but other than that, no need to be super polished. We hope to hear your story!

Introducing the emcees

Both of the emcees serve as RIDE Advisory Board members at Bicycle Colorado.

Lauren Nagle

Lauren Nagle – A recipient of the QBP Bike Mechanic Scholarship, Lauren can be found wrenching on bikes all over Northern Colorado. A strong believer in the notion that everyone should have access to free minor repairs, you can find her at a local day shelter, in mobile home communities, and participating in free repair events with the City of Fort Collins. Lauren doesn’t own a car, and while it was a choice at first, owning a vehicle is not a financial possibility for her at this time, so she is also mindful of making sure that she doesn’t glorify a car free existence. Still, Lauren is dedicated to riding a bike as often as possible, everywhere possible, with bikepacking and gravel endurance racing playing a starring role. Lauren is also the manager of a 80-person women’s bike team in Fort Collins, the Fort Follies.

Eugene Howard – Eugene is a husband, father of two, and Planner with the City and County of Denver. He loves working in and with communities to bring their needs and aspirations to the attention of others through the planning process. Eugene “discovered” the planning profession volunteering on the board of his registered neighborhood organization, representing his community through various city-led plans for Northwest Denver. Eugene has a fondness for multimodal and active transportation having lived in major cities on both coasts where he found the beauty of the built environment by traveling without his car. He values giving back to community and practices this through participating on numerous boards and associations, charitable giving, and by teaching future city planners as an adjunct lecturer at his graduate alma mater, University of Colorado Denver.
