UNC is ready for the 2010 season

From the UNC Cycling team....

The 2010 collegiate cycling schedule has been released, and the University of Northern Colorado cycling team is eagerly anticipating the upcoming race season. With a similar schedule to last year, we are looking forward to improving on our results from a year ago. In the 2009 season, we enjoyed some solid performances which included wins by David Leonard in the men’s B Air Force road race, A.J. Turner in the men’s C Denver University crit, and Ben Norris in the men’s C Fort Lewis and Colorado College crits. We also earned some hardware at the RMCCC finals last year with A.J. accumulating the most total points on the season for men’s C in Division II and Liz Martin earning the same title for women’s B. Additionally, we sent Alex Lewis to nationals in Fort Collins where he represented us well and finished a respectable 16th in a tough road race.

While we lost several talented riders to graduation and transfer, we still have a few returning riders with race experience, including Alex Lewis, Ben Norris, and Liz Martin. We also have some new members this year with a great deal of potential who are enthusiastic about the prospect of racing. We have completed our custom jersey order and hope to receive our kits early in the season.

UNC Cycling Coach at Boulder Cup

Scott Wenzel has agreed to coach us again this year, and we are grateful to have him as a resource. He used to race for UNC as well and possesses invaluable knowledge and experience. He is preparing both the new and experienced riders for the race season by helping us to build a strong base and learn race tactics and bike handling skills. With the race season upon us, we are switching to higher intensity workouts in preparation for the suffering ahead.

With the help of Scott, we expect to win races in several categories this year and help our new riders to gain confidence and experience in racing. We also hope to be represented at nationals again this year in Wisconsin. 2010 is going to be an awesome year for UNC cycling!
