Ride 2 Recovery is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to improve the health and wellness of healing heroes through mental and physical rehabilitation programs that feature cycling as the core activity. Honor Rides raise awareness and are the funding arm for Ride 2 Recovery and give the public the opportunity to ride with healing heroes and enlisted military on a non-competitive, fun ride. Participants can choose the distance they prefer, 15, 27 or 61 miles.
The Gran Fondo National Championship Series encourages the progression of cycling as a communal sport that promotes personal challenges and a competitive outlet for a wide variety of riders.
The phrase "Charity Ride" often conjures up the following; great cause, but easy course, pretty sedate atmosphere, ill-fitting participation t-shirts, etc. The only part of this that applies to the 2013 Tour de Cure is the "Great Cause" part. From there, it's like no charity ride you've ever done.
The kickoff presentation Wednesday that outlined the route for the Pedal the Plains was so energizing and exciting that I almost went out and bought a road bike when it was over. I’m sort of kidding. Not about the exciting and energizing part. Just the part about me buying a road bike (unless you know of a really great deal). But truly from the governor to Chandler Smith the director of Pedal the Pains it was obvious that a lot of thought and heart goes into planning this very cool and family friendly event.
