Sonya Looney gains spot on US World Championships Team

CyclingNews reports that local rider Sonya Looney just gained a spot on the US National Mountain biking Marathon Worlds team. Worlds will be August 8th in St. Wendel, Germany and she will be joined by Krista Park (Cannondale-Incycle.com), Jeremiah Bishop (Cannondale Factory Racing) and Burke Swindlehurst (Team Give-Blackbottoms). Cyclist Participating in Boulder Time Trial Series Hit by Car

The Boulder cyclist who was hit by a car while participating in the Boulder Time Trial Series on Wednesday night has been identified as Ryan Welsh, 25. He was taken to St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver with serious injuries and was listed in serious but stable condition this morning, a hospital official said.

A cyclist participating in the Boulder Time Trial Series on Wednesday night was airlifted to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver with serious injuries after being hit by a car, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Erin Bishop, 28, of Boulder, was driving her silver Saturn north on U.S. 36 when she turned left onto Lefthand Canyon Drive shortly after 6 p.m., hitting the cyclist, who was headed south on U.S. 36 as part of the bike race, according to Trooper Heather Cobler.

U.S. 36 was closed briefly to allow a helicopter to land on the road, according to Boulder County dispatch.

Erie Colorado approves new Velodrome

News Item: 

Erie Colorado just approved the constuction of a 250 meter velodrome at intersection of Bonnell Avenue and County Line Road. This outdoor facility will be open year round, built by Olympic standards and could be open as early as the spring of 2011! The group leading this effort is boneshaker LLC and partner Doug Emerson. If I have my names correct, Doug Emerson is also the owner of University Bikes and has been a long time supporter of track riding.

2010 Longmont Criterium Report

News Item: 

Yesterday was the Colorado criterium state championships in Longmont. The classic 6 corner Longmont Criterium course in its 24th year was the venue. The Pro-1-2 field was huge with probably over 100 riders toeing the line. The conditions were very difficult with raining coming down off and on through out the race.

Winter Park Super Downhill Digitized

News Item: 

This past weekend was a weekend packed full of cycling events, North Boulder Criterium, Longmont Criterium, Triple Bypass, and Boulder Peaks Triathlon and some dirt events as well like Winter Park's Super Downhill. Spencer Powlison was the winner for the men's field and Heather Baumgartner tool the women's field. Mountain Moon Photographer took a lot of photos of the event, below are a few highlights.
