“You’ve done the rest, now take the test!”
Now in its 7th year, the Breckenridge 100 Mountain Bike Race is regarded as the hardest race in the National Ultra 100 Series. Featuring Solo and Three Person Team Competitions, this incredible race climbs 13,719 feet and reminds participants of what backcountry mountain biking is all about.

The renowned course architect, Mike Zobbe, has linked together an amazing network of backcountry trails, roads, double track and bike paths that takes the competitors far beyond the typical boundaries of endurance racing. From start to finish, they are both pampered and pushed to their limit at the same time. They cross the Continental Divide three times, climb 12,000 foot passes and forge high mountain streams while returning to the support and encouragement of staff, friends and teammates who are waiting for them in historic downtown Breckenridge.

Veteran Endurance Racer and former 3 time Montezuma’s Revenge Champion Thane Wright founded the race in 2004. Another Montezuma’s Revenge Champion and local racer Josh Tostado has won the race every year since its inception, defending his title against all comers including Tinker Juarez, Travis Brown, and current NUE leader Jeff Schalk.
The Breckenridge 100 racecourse, now part of the new Rocky Mountain Endurance Series presented by Warriors Cycling, is comprised of 3 unique cloverleaf style loops, which allow for competitors to lap through Carter Park in downtown Breckenridge after each loop. It also allows racers to compete in two shorter distance events utilizing parts of the same pristine course, the B-68, and the B-32. This allows mere mortals the chance to compete on spectacular backcountry terrain and get a taste of what National caliber endurance racing is all about.

Defending Firecracker 50 Champion, Heather Irmiger, to race with Mom

News Item:

The defending champion of the Firecracker 50 for the past two years, Heather Irmiger, will be doing this years race with a race partner, her mother. Heather had not originally planned on racing the Firecracker 50 given a race scheduling conflict as she is up in Canada today racing the Mont Saint Anne World Cup tomorrow. Her mother had signed up to do it this year with a friend but that person bailed out leaving Heather to fill the spot. In Heather's words, "I saw how hard my mom had been working to do this, so decided to help her make it happen". They will be in the "Maverick" category with Heather taking the first lap leaving Mom to clean up after her daughter (bet she has been there before). Heather has won this event for last 2 years

We asked Heather to tell us a little bit about this up coming opportunity.

[303cycling] Is this the first time you and your Mom have done a competitive cycling event together? How excited are you and what was her reaction to you asking her to do it?

Beti Bike Bash is going to be a Blast

News Item:

The second edition of Colorado's first and only women's mountain bike race is scheduled for this weekend at Bear Creek Lake Park in Denver. The Beti Bike Bash, run by the Yeti Beti Mountain Bike team based in Golden, drew 170 finishers in 2010. More than 90 of the participants were beginner-class riders. This year, the event will continue to cater to such green racers with their own category and a clinic with Rebecca Rusch on Saturday. For pros, the event has upped the ante with a $3,000 cash purse provided by Stans NoTubes.

Even if you can't or don't want to race, you can still participate in the weekend events by attending a showing of Race Across the Sky on Friday, June 10 at the Tivoli in Denver. The money raised that night will be donated to COMBA, the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and Mountain2Mountain (M2M), a nonprofit organization working to help empower the people of Afghanistan, with a focus on women and girls and gender equity. Also, head out to the park on Saturday for a skills clinic taught by pro, female riders. More information can be found on the Beti Bike Bash website: http://www.betibikebash.com/

303 Cycling caught up with Amy of the Yeti Betis to learn more about the event and why you (or your wife, or your daughter, or your sister) should participate. Registration is still open - you can sign up online or in person this Friday at Outdoor Divas.

+ Give us a brief reminder of why and how the event got started.
