Boulder B-cycle Returns March 16

BOULDER, CO (March 5, 2012) - Bike sharing returns to the streets of Boulder, March 16, when Boulder B-cycle re-opens for the 2012 season. Initial re-launch will include 120 bikes spread between 15 strategically located stations in Boulder's downtown business corridor.

Later this spring, four new stations - at North Boulder Recreation Center, Broadway and University, Wilderness Place in front of Boulder Beer, and Whole Foods on 28th and Pearl - will also come on-line. Details on installation dates and events celebrating these new stations will be released soon.

"Our first year was a tremendous success. Now, we're looking to build on that momentum with four new stations and some great member-benefit programs," said Boulder B-cycle executive director Elizabeth Train. "Thanks to amazing support from the community, bike sharing will continue to grow and thrive in Boulder this season."

From the Daily Camera

A large contingent of local, state and federal officials are pushing the U.S. Department of Transportation to grant Boulder's application for about a half-million dollars to greatly expand the city's bike sharing program.

The city has applied for the money through the federal Transportation Community and System Preservation grant. The application requests $440,000, but a required 20-percent local match in private and in-kind investments would bring the total value of the grant to about $550,000.

The money would be used to grow the Boulder B-cycle bike-sharing program by 10 stations -- adding about 50 percent new capacity to the system that launched last spring with 100 red bikes and computerized kiosks.

Unique Program Turns Ads Into Art - On Bikes!

News Item:

BOULDER, CO (June 20, 2011) - What happens when you transform advertising space into art? It's a question few have asked and even fewer have answered.

But this Wednesday, in conjunction with Colorado's Bike To Work Day, the Boulder B-cycle bike-sharing program will find out when the Ads2Art project rolls out 50 bikes sporting art on the basket-panel space normally reserved for adverting.

This unique project, which will touch half of Boulder B-cycle's 100-bike launch fleet, is the brainchild of Alex and Ana Bogusky, who made a generous $50,000 sponsorship donation to secure B-cycle basket space, then put out a call for submissions from local artists.

Next came a gallery showing and auction at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, which both raised money for the nonprofit bike-share program and helped determine which pieces of art would receive the distinct honor of being part of Boulder's streetscape for one year.
