Walk and Roll is coming to a School near you Friday!

News Item:

Friday is Earth Day and for kids in the Boulder Valley School District it is Walk and Roll Day! and for some schools this is a week long event with Friday being the big day. If the name doesn't say it all, Walk and Roll is a day/week where kids are encouraged to learn a life skill and find green/healthy options to arrive at school, like by bike. Heatherwood Elementary school has been running a Walk and Roll campaign for the last 4 years and every year they have seen substantial growth in the number of kids participating.

For the Heatherwood kids and some other schools in BVSD, Walk and Roll is one day out of the entire school year for walking and biking and many schools tie this into their already running school year long Safe Routes to Schools program. Kids at Heatherwood Elementary receive recognition and awards for 5, 30 and 100 days of walking or biking and over 40 kids have already logged 100 days of biking or walking! Have you commuted by bike half as much since September? Who is really the teacher here?

This year Heatherwood Elementary received a Safe Routes to Schools mini grant to help kids with Autism join in on the Walk and Roll week. To make this possible they will be teaming up will Assisted Cycling Tours who has a fleet of tandems specially equipped for people with autism and they are located right here in the Denver area!!!

Rapid growth pushes apparel-maker to 8,800-square-foot office space

DENVER - March 31, 2011 - Cycling apparel manufacturer Primal Wear is moving its headquarters into an 8,800-square-foot space in Denver this month. The move, which will occur over the course of a few weeks and be finished in early April, will not disrupt normal business operations.

"Primal has seen remarkable growth over the past few years with the expansion of our custom apparel division and our dedication to growing the Primal brand," said Dave Edwards, founder and CEO of Primal. "Refocusing our efforts has resulted in an average of 40% growth year to year over the last three years."

This growth has allowed Primal to hire 10 additional employees in the last year, with the expansion of the sales, design, and warehouse departments. To accommodate additional growth, Primal's new two-level facility is nearly double the current space. This will allow for continued growth over the next 5-10 years. The new offices are approximately one mile from the old location, and are located on the Cherry Creek Trail System, providing excellent ride-up access to the facility for both employees and customers.

Superior Bike Park opens Saturday!

News Item:

The Superior Bike Park opens this Saturday at noon according to the Daily Camera

We reported back in October that Superior was also getting a bike park. The new park is located at Rock Creek Parkway and Honey Creek Lane. Lee McCormack is designing and constructing the park. Here is an update from Lee's website.

Mission
Design and build a bike park for the community. Riders of all ages, levels and styles. The upcoming Valmont Bike Park in Boulder will draw hardcore riders; this can really focus on local kids, families and mountain bikers.

Required features
- Jumps
- Pump track
- Natural terrain a la Lyons Bike park
- Beginner area with Strider-approved pump tack

This park will teach the skills riders need to rip the local trails. That’s what I tried in Lyons, and I think it came out nice. Heck, I’ve learned tons on the sandstone pyramid.

New SW4 team designed to help women who ride, become women who RACE!!

News Item:

"TheCyclist-Lawyer.com" SW4 team was developed for brand new road and track cyclists who have never raced before and who want to learn the fundamentals in a team environment. Team size will be limited to 20 ladies, with a waiting list created for additional women who want to join. The philosophy behind this team is that beginner female cyclists deserve a supportive and educational team where they can learn about racing, training, nutrition and tactics in a fun atmosphere.

Rides, clinics, meetings, races and more will be held primarily in the Denver and Boulder areas. The topics will range from training to nutrition to racing to pre-race strategy, both as an individual racer and also as a member of a team.

The team will be led by Megan Hottman, professional road and track cyclist, and sponsored by her law firm, Hottman Law Office. Treads Bicycle Outfitters will be the team shop and will provide a meeting location and discounts to team members. Founder Hottman says, "The goal for these women is to help them earn sufficient upgrade points in one or two seasons, to move up to SW3, and to join other locally-competitive teams. The underlying purpose in this is to keep the sport growing by bringing in new women at the beginner level, and then helping them move up. This keeps local racing exciting by keeping field sizes large, local teams fed with new riders, and also helps identify new up-and-coming talent for the professional ranks."

How to Join?

Email Megan at meghottman@hotmail.com. She’ll ask you a few questions by email to be sure you are a good fit with this group and if so, then she’ll send you instructions on how to get started.
