American Cycling Association Position on USAC/UCI Rule

American Cycling Association Position on USAC/UCI enforcement of UCI Rule 1.2.019

In the last two weeks the UCI (International Cycling Union) and USAC (United States Cycling Association) have decided to enforce UCI Rule 1.2.019, which affects the ability of UCI-licensed professional riders to participate in local races. The rule regards ‘Forbidden races’, and says:

1.2.019 No (professional) license holder may participate in an event that has not been included on a national, continental or world calendar or that has not been recognized by a national federation, a continental confederation or the UCI.

A national federation may grant special exceptions for races or particular events run in its own country.

This is not a new rule, and only recently has enforcement of this rule been made public to riders in the United States. Professional riders who break this rule are threatened with suspensions and monetary fines. The effect of this enforcement is two-fold:

Bike racing, family-friendly festival highlight Memorial Weekend

SUPERIOR, COLORADO (April 20, 2011) - Following a successful inaugural event in 2010, the Superior Morgul Classic returns for its much anticipated encore, May 28-29, Memorial Weekend 2011.

Just like a year ago, bike racers can expect expertly organized, challenging events that will include Saturday's Summit Criterium and Sunday's Morgul-Bismarck Road Race. Categories range from juniors and beginners to expert amateurs and pros.

Meanwhile, families and fans will be surrounded by a bounty of festival entertainment options. An exhibitor expo, food vendors, beer tent and live music are just some of the highlights sure to make the 2011 Superior Morgul Classic a can't-miss holiday weekend event.

Kids are also integral to the Superior Morgul Classic, with a dedicated kids zone, multiple bouncy castles, and kids fun rides assuring a true fun-for-the-whole-family experience.

Best of all entry to the festival - including live musical performances by the Johnny O Band and acclaimed acappella group Face - is completely FREE.

Bike to Work Day station help due by Friday

Bike to Work is a long ways off but if your organization/company wants to help out you'd better jump fast, they need to know by Friday!

Your location must be able to provide the following:

  • Food and beverage for at least 50 people (some stations may require a higher minimum, based on location). Food/ drink must be such that if a participant is going to no other breakfast station than yours, they still will feel as if they had breakfast. A bagel and juice would qualify. Bars and water would not qualify. Samples alone do not qualify, unless there are enough samples to easily make a full meal. If you just have your one or two products you would like to sample, we will set you up with an established breakfast station where you may do that. Contact Sue at bikesue@gmail.com for details.
  • Minimum operating hours of 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. (breakfast station), 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (bike home station) advertised to the public.
  • Banners MUST be picked up at the banner pick up day on 15th (Location TBA) and returned to
    GO Boulder (1739 Broadway 2nd floor) by July 8th
  • Easy and safe access for bicycles, preferably on a bike path and not at a major traffic
    intersection.
  • Bicycle racks or a designated space for bicycle parking.
