Marni with the City of Boulder showing off their award.

Last night Boulder was given the Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community Award by the League of Amercian Cyclist. The City Manager, Mayor and other Cycling leaders of our community were present yet the crowd seem to be void of the largest cycling community in Boulder, Athletic cyclists. Where were they? No invitation, no desire, no knowledge? Something for a later Tuesday Coffee Talk is the continued absence of the athletic cycling community from core Boulder Cycling activities. What's going on there?

Boulder renewed as a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists

Across the U.S., bicycling is on the rise - thanks in part to communities like Boulder taking steps to make riding easy, accessible and safe. Today, the League of American Bicyclists (LoAB) announced the latest round of Bicycle Friendly Communities (BFC) and renewed Boulder’s standing as a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community. The Platinum award recognizes Boulder’s continued commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investments in education, infrastructure, policies and promotion.

“We are excited that Boulder recognizes that simple steps to make biking safe and comfortable pay huge dividends in civic, community and economic development,” said League President Andy Clarke. “Bicycling is more than a practical, cost-effective solution to many community challenges – it’s a way to make Boulder a place where people don’t just live and work, but thrive.”

Strava Countersues in Death of California cyclist

Not in the 303 but we talked alot about using Strava over the past few months.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (BRAIN) — Strava has filed a response in San Francisco’s Superior Court denying responsibility for all 26 charges set forth in a negligence lawsuit stemming from the 2010 death of a cyclist who was killed while using the popular personal fitness mobile application.

Strava also countersued William K. Flint I, the father of Kim Flint Jr. and administrator of his estate, saying that when Flint Jr. joined Strava on Oct. 7, 2009, he electronically signed and agreed to Strava’s terms and conditions, a part of which excludes Strava from responsibility of legal claims or demands arising from a user’s connection to the site.

Flint Jr., 41, died on June 19, 2010, when he collided with an automobile while attempting to defend his “King of the Mountain” on a ride in Orinda, California’s Tilden Park. King of the Mountain is the term Strava uses to identify the fastest rider on a particular segment, clocked by GPS.

TREK US GRAN PRIX of Cx p/b Greenware & WD-40 Bike Adds Single Speed Competition to Overall Series Competition

Fort Collins, CO (October 11, 2012) - The organizers of the Trek US Gran Prix of Cyclocross p/b Greenware® and WD-40 Bike announced the addition of the Single Speed category to the overall series competition.

"We have seen tremendous growth in the size of the single speed fields - and for the past two seasons we have fielded tons requests to add the category to the Series overall competition. With so many single speeders traveling to all the USGP races we realized that it's time and we're excited to see it grow even more" said Series Director Joan Hanscom.

Last season Raleigh-Clement rider Craig Ethridge dominated the single speed races but because the Series did not award an overall title for the category his teammates named him the unofficial winner and held their own podium ceremony held in Seattle. This year Craig is looking forward to battling for an official podium presentation and an overall series leader's jersey.

The Title will be awarded on points earned moving forward at the SmartWool Cup in Fort Collins, The Derby City Cup in Louisville, KY and the Deschutes Brewery Cup in Bend, OR. Results from all 6 days of racing will be counted toward the series overall points tally.
