Sunshine Hill Climb, Boulder

some, including the race, continue on further towards Gold Hill

Make this a quickie out of Boulder or turn it into an all out epic ride. Sunshine Canyon starts where Mapleton street in Boulder ends and pretty quickly things turn upwards fast. You can cheat out early and make a left turn on Poorman which will return you back into Boulder. The first 5 miles are difficult but kindly this road changes a lot afterwards with some decents and some climbing but all with varying pitch. Many stop at the pavement but the brave continue on up to the town of Gold Hill. This section of gravel is steep so be prepared to melt your lungs. Once at Gold hill you have a ton of choices, go west and you end up on the peak to peak Hwy, go North and end up in Left hand canyon, go South and end up back in Boulder and turn around and return to Boulder. I personally recommend going South but you have to feel comfortable on gravel because you will have a lot of miles of it.

Unique Program Turns Ads Into Art - On Bikes!

BOULDER, CO (June 20, 2011) - What happens when you transform advertising space into art? It's a question few have asked and even fewer have answered.

But this Wednesday, in conjunction with Colorado's Bike To Work Day, the Boulder B-cycle bike-sharing program will find out when the Ads2Art project rolls out 50 bikes sporting art on the basket-panel space normally reserved for adverting.

This unique project, which will touch half of Boulder B-cycle's 100-bike launch fleet, is the brainchild of Alex and Ana Bogusky, who made a generous $50,000 sponsorship donation to secure B-cycle basket space, then put out a call for submissions from local artists.

Next came a gallery showing and auction at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, which both raised money for the nonprofit bike-share program and helped determine which pieces of art would receive the distinct honor of being part of Boulder's streetscape for one year.

Generally speaking, in our society, women often have a lot of pressure on their shoulders in regards to body image and weight. This can have an impact on us in cycling
performance because we are often cutting calories in the wrong places to try to shave off those few extra pounds we always want to lose. For some of us, this is why we ride bikes in the first place. If you want to lose weight but still ride and/or train, it is imperative to eat “really well” before, during, and after your bike rides. You can, in turn, eat lighter meals at other times of the day. If you don’t give your body proper fuel surrounding your bike rides, you will end up losing lean muscle and sacrificing performance gains. Some basic guidelines are soon to follow.

When I remember back to some of my earliest bike rides, I snicker to myself and wonder how I ever had enough energy to get through any of them. Riding clothes went on, bike
went in the car, and bottle full of plain water was shoved into the bag. I might have taken a backpack with a water reservoir and sometimes even a granola bar. That being said, it is probably fine to do that occasionally, but if you’re looking for sustainable, consistent energy, especially on your longer rides, you have to plan your ride nutrition a little more carefully. Nutrition can really come into play if you are: trying to beat your previous finish time in an event, looking to hang on to the fast group in a training ride, going out for some hard intervals, and especially if you are looking to take a podium spot at a race!

07.15.2011– Fort Collins, Colo. – Racers from ACA USAC and UCI Converge on Fort Collins August 19-21.

Racers from all parts of the world go head to head with both the national and local talent of Colorado with three associations and one agreement that all racers will be able to race in any weekend event, no matter what association card they hold. This agreement will allow racers of ACA, USAC and UCI to cross over to each other association’s category without penalties.

We are proud to represent all three associations and excited to have the opportunity to work with such professional groups. The event is truly a racers weekend. “Said Charlie Weinbeck”

In the past, the (grueling) Rist Canyon Road Race has been sanctioned by ACA. This year we have sanctioned the race as a USAC race, and have worked out the details to allow for ACA members to compete.

Community Cycles wins North Face grant

BOULDER – Community Cycles, a nonprofit organization that educates and advocates for the safe use of bicycles, has won a $2,500 grant from The North Face Awards. North Face selected 52 organizations nationwide to receive grants based on the organizations’ work getting youth active and outdoors.
